About Connie

Hello! My name is Connie, and I am a friendly and passionate English teacher with around three years of teaching experience.

Teaching English is more than a job for me- it is something I truly love.

I have a university degree and a TEFL qualification, and I have spent three years teaching in real classrooms with students of different ages and levels. I always try to make my lessons fun, positive, and supportive, so students feel confident and excited to learn. I language grade everything that I write or say so that a B1-B2 level student can easily understand it.

Because of teaching, I have travelled to many different countries and made friends all around the world. I believe that learning languages helps people understand each other and feel more connected.

Fun facts about me:
-My main hobbies are cross country running, triathlons, and trying new foods
-When I was 19 years old, I wrote articles for a national newspaper!
-My hometown (Brighton) is one of the most famous places to learn English due to the neutral accent and friendly local people
-I lived in Japan for one year, and I can speak a little Japanese

I would love to help you (or your child) grow in confidence and enjoy learning English

About the lesson

For our initial class, we will have a casual conversation with some questions so that I can evaluate and assess your strengths and areas to improve in order to choose what resources to use in class. We will look at these resources together to check that you are comfortable with the level of the language.

I teach a standard British English accent and help students perfect their pronunciation as well as their ability to say and understand sounds that might not exist in their language.

My lessons have a particular focus on grammar, not just memorising it, understanding it- as grammar is one of the most interesting things about the English language, and is the building blocks to understanding how a language works.
I place an emphasis on students looking for patterns in sentences, which helps improve their confidence.

My classes are aimed at:
-Students who find learning languages difficult
-Students who want to get ahead
-Students preparing to study abroad
-Students who think they are 'not good' at English
-Students preparing for university entrance exams
-Students who need help studying for Eiken or TOEIC

︎ I am encouraging and patient, and would be a good match for students who don't have confidence in their English ability, or for students who lack self esteem and feel like they are 'bad' at Languages. I have lived abroad myself and understand the challenges and discomfort of speaking a different language!
