About Joey
Is your essay or chapter hard to follow—even after you have the research?
Writing is hard. I give you a clear framework so you can fix the page. I’m Joey, an American linguist and a full professor at a major university. I hold a PhD in linguistics. For decades I have taught students how to build an argument, how to order a paper, and how to write academic English that a reader can actually follow.
I work with you on your draft. I do not write it for you. We use three tools. Joseph Williams’ Style: Clarity and Grace puts characters in the subject and actions in the verb, and it moves old information before new. Helen Sword’s The Writer’s Diet cuts zombie nouns, slack verbs, and wasted words. We use story logic to give your writing a spine: a problem, a struggle with evidence, and a resolution the reader can see. That is what makes a paper readable. That is what makes it interesting.
We meet on Google Meet. You write. I coach.

You’re the one who has to submit it. I’m Joey. I help you get the structure right so you can finish the writing yourself.
Plan:
1. Send the assignment (question or rubric) and your draft.
2. On Google Meet we fix the spine: thesis, section order, what to cut.
3. We repair weak passages together. You leave with three tasks.
A typical 50 minutes:
What this piece must do → the argument → the problem pages → your next steps. I coach. I don’t write it for you.
