About Ria

While I'm still early in my academic journey as a second-year university student, I take tutoring seriously and treat every session with the same professionalism you'd expect from an experienced educator. I come prepared for each lesson, communicate clearly and promptly, and am committed to being reliable and consistent for every student I work with, whether that means showing up on time, following through on what we planned to cover, or checking in on progress between sessions.

My qualifications are backed by real teaching experience, from working with children as young as 3 through peer-level tutoring in medical math as a HOSA Executive Member. Moreover, I have a track record of academic achievement, including an internationally-ranked essay competition. But just as important as my background is how I actually approach each student. I don't use a one-size-fits-all lesson plan. Instead, I start by getting to know the student and how a student learns best — whether they're a visual, auditory, or hands-on learner — and I build our sessions around that. If a student needs to see a concept mapped out visually, I'll sketch it. If they need to talk through the logic out loud, we'll work through it together as a conversation. If they need to physically work a problem to make it stick, we'll do that too.

I also take time to identify where a student's specific gaps are, rather than just reviewing material broadly, so every session is focused on what will actually move the needle for them. I'm always open and transparent about my background so you know exactly who you're working with, and I genuinely care about seeing each student grow — not just in their grades, but in how confident they feel tackling the subject on their own.

Hi, I'm Ria Patel, a second-year Biomedical Physiology student at the University of Georgia with a genuine passion for helping students find their voice on the page. My foundation in English runs deep: I took AP English in both grade 9 and grade 10 in Canada, building strong skills in close reading, essay structure, argumentation, and revision. In grade 10, I put those skills to the test, co-writing an argumentative essay on malnutrition in third-world countries for the GRC Social Impact Essay Writing Competition — our team's essay ranked in the top 14 globally.

But my experience with English goes beyond the classroom. As a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, I taught reading and language foundations to children ages 3 to 11, adapting my approach for everything from basic letter recognition to age-appropriate reading comprehension. That experience taught me how to meet a student exactly where they are, whether they're just learning to read or working on a polished analytical essay. As a University of Georgia student, I took ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102, excelling in both courses with an A, which illustrates my skills and qualifications to teach writing.

I bring patience, clear step-by-step instruction, and genuine encouragement to every session — along with a real understanding of what makes writing work, from crafting a strong thesis to tightening a shaky paragraph. Whether a student needs help with grammar fundamentals, essay structure, or building confidence as a reader and writer, I tailor my approach to how they learn best.

If you're ready to strengthen your reading and writing skills, I'd love to work with you — let's get started.
