About Piper

I’m a senior at the University of Michigan studying Economics and Statistics, with coursework in math, statistics, data analysis, and economics. I’ve also spent a lot of time working with and tutoring younger students, including through SOAR Detroit, where I’ve helped elementary-aged students with schoolwork and foundational skills. I’ve always really enjoyed being around kids and figuring out how to explain something in a way that makes sense to them rather than just giving them the answer. I’m patient, encouraging, and understand that every student learns a little differently. Whether a student needs extra help keeping up with class, wants more practice in math or reading, or just needs someone to make homework feel less overwhelming, I’m happy to meet them where they are and work from there.

I tailor each lesson to the student’s individual needs, whether that means reinforcing concepts from school, working through homework, or building stronger foundational skills. For math, I focus on making problems feel approachable and helping students understand the “why” behind each step. For reading, I work on comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and confidence. My goal is to create a patient, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. I primarily work with elementary school students in grades K–6.
