About Hailey

Hi! My name is Hailey, and I am a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts Honors student at the University of Guelph, majoring in Gender, Sexuality, and Social Change with a minor in Anthropology. I am passionate about supporting children’s learning, growth, and confidence, and I am currently pursuing a career in primary education. I bring several years of hands-on experience working with children in educational and leadership roles. This includes my time as a Summer Camp Coordinator and Youth Program Leader with the YMCA, where I supported children of different ages and learning needs, supervised staff, communicated with families, and helped create safe, inclusive, and engaging environments. I also worked as a Classroom Assistant at Kumon, supporting early learners with reading, writing, and math, providing individualized guidance, and reinforcing foundational skills in a structured and encouraging way. I am a patient, organized, and reliable tutor who values clear communication and positive relationships. I strive to make learning feel supportive and engaging, helping students build both academic skills and confidence in their abilities. I look forward to working with students and families to support their learning goals in a caring and professional way.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is patient, supportive, and tailored to each child’s age, learning style, and goals. I believe children learn best when they feel comfortable and confident, so I create a positive and encouraging environment that supports both skill-building and self-expression. Lessons focus on reading, writing, literacy, and phonics, and are adapted to meet students where they are developmentally and academically.

For younger learners, sessions may include hands-on, play-based activities, games, and creative exercises to build foundational literacy and phonics skills in an engaging and age-appropriate way. For older students, lessons shift toward reading comprehension, vocabulary development, structured writing, and test preparation. A typical session includes a brief check-in, focused skill instruction, guided and independent practice, and time to reflect on progress and set goals. I am also happy to support homework and school assignments as needed for younger and older students alike..

What sets me apart is my combination of strong academic training and extensive experience working with children and youth in both educational and recreational settings. As a fourth-year university student with a background in inclusive practices and child programming, I bring patience, empathy, and clear communication to every session.

My tutoring is well-suited for students from Kindergarten through Grade 10, whether they are early readers building confidence or older students working to strengthen comprehension, writing skills, and academic readiness.
