About Mila
Hi, my name's Mila! I’m a senior Biology major at the University of Dallas with a concentration in English. I have tutoring experience across both the sciences and writing-based subjects. Alongside my pre-med coursework in biology, I’ve taken upper-level literature electives (my favorite class was called Junior Poet, where I spent a semester defending Sylvia Plath as a neo-Romantic!) and written scholarship-winning essays.
My background in STEM has shaped my tutoring approach. I like to focus on the non-linear ways concepts connect and build understanding from there. I've come to realize that there are way more similarities between solving a stoichiometry equation and writing a good English essay than you'd think.
In sessions, I work directly with you. I'm not there to tell you what I think, or what I think your teachers think you should say, but to help you flesh out your own ideas and to better articulate what you want to say. I'm here to help with your thoughts on your material, so I provide assistance with breaking down prompts, developing and refining thesis statements, or going line by line through passages to understand how meaning is constructed. I pay attention not just to what you're writing or what you think is significant, but how you're thinking through it.
I work with middle school, high school, and early college students in essay writing, literary analysis, reading comprehension, and general academic writing.

My approach to tutoring is focused on helping students engage with literature and articulate their own ideas and voice in their writing.
Although I am a senior Biology major, I have consistently excelled in literature and writing courses, taken upper-level literature electives throughout college, and written scholarship-winning essays. Besides English, I've tutored for both General Biology and Organic Chemistry. The techniques I use are invariably adapted to each individual's learning style. A lesson can range anywhere from practicing literary analysis to reviewing an assignment together.
I use my background in both STEM and the humanities to help others develop strong communication skills while making complex themes accessible.
My lessons are ideal for middle school, high school, and introductory college students seeking assistance with their essays, creative writing, literary and poetic analysis, academic research, and organizing and expressing their ideas.
Whether you're preparing for a test, working on a challenging essay, or refining a short story, I can help you develop a stronger writing style and refine your craft level.
