My situation was unique. I had serious epileptic seizures during high school resulting in multiple brain surgeries and a long, challenging recovery. Matt entered my life during this time; I still had assignments to complete before graduation and an impending SAT exam, so I met with Matt twice a week and learned the essential concepts of writing and reading comprehension. While math was my strong suit, Matt helped me identify some earlier math concepts that needed refreshing. My initial SAT score prior to my relationship with Matt was 1260, but, after tutoring, I received a 1510 and was accepted by my school of choice for pre-med studies. I continue to meet with Matt two or three times per week during my undergraduate studies for more advanced writing strategies. I cannot imagine a better academic mentor than I have found with Matt.

I’ve been working with Professor Lewis for just over a year now. I had been searching for a tutor for some time to improve my math and writing skills; when I found Matt and began working with him, I realized I found someone who would make a significant contribution to my learning. Matt is professional, knowledgeable, and patient, and he always finds a way to make learning fun and simpler than I anticipate.

After working with Matt for just over a year, I can say definitively the writing skills I have achieved over this period of time have proven useful in college preparation. As I continue my final year of highschool, I am confident my new skills will carry me into college and beyond. This experience has been very helpful to me.

One of my first lessons with Matt was a re-writing exercise from an assignment I completed in school a few weeks prior. Simply re-writing the paper with Matt’s coaching, including more relevant details and corrected grammar and punctuation, made me a better writer. As I continue in my learning, Matt is teaching me easy ways of remembering proper grammar and sentence structure for future assignments. Correct and effective communication is important, and I cannot imagine a better teacher of these things than Matt.
