I try to tailor my approach to each individual student as much as possible by evaluating their needs, what areas of the writing process they have strengths in, and what areas they are seeking to improve. I have found that many of the students I have tutored needed the confidence to be instilled in them that they are, in fact, capable of being good writers. In my experience, many students view themselves as poor writers when, in fact, they often only need to be educated on one or two of the finer points of writing in order to transform their work.
My overall goal with every student, regardless of what specific part of their writing they are seeking assistance for, is to equip them with the knowledge recognize proper written composition vs. flawed or incomplete writing so that after their time spent with me, they will be able to apply the knowledge toward their own writing and be competent, self-sufficient writers.
