My approach is completely student-centered, so I approach each session by establishing attainable student goals that are part of a larger long-term goal. The materials I use to approach skill development are representative of student interest and relative academic level. I like to use items from popular culture, current events alongside academic classics to provide a well-rounded learning experience that is both engaging and efficient.
I am a teacher, writer, and avid reader with 20 years of experience in teaching everything under the language arts umbrella. I am a trained AP Language and Composition teacher, a poetry recitation coach, and an award-winning journalism teacher. My students typically raise their ACT reading and English scores between four and seven points after several weeks of regular sessions. Many of my students have become successful professionals in graphic design, photography, law, medicine, business management, and computer science.
I'm also experienced in working with students on the autism spectrum and with students who have a variety of learning disabilities, and I am comfortable with meeting individual needs in a sensitive and flexible way.
I am willing to travel within the greater Wilmington area, but clients outside of New Hanover County will need to have lessons via webcam.

Honestly the best teacher I’ve ever had. Helped me when I felt like I was horrible at English and made me more confident in my future English classes. Took my notebook from that class with me to college to help me with my essays! 100/10 recommend!!
She is very kind and willing to help you succeed! She is very knowledgeable in the subject of English, as well as many others. Such a genuine person that graces us with her teaching.
I had the pleasure of being instructed by Lisa for advanced placement English in high school. Lisa has familiarized herself with her craft beyond the necessary — she reads an assortment of literature, continues to receive higher education, and has experience writing professionally for many audiences. Aside from having the resources to teach, she has qualities as an instructor that are hard to come by. Evident from my experiences in her classroom and from our interactions together, she has a passion for helping others learn and grow. She is patient, kind, and humorous, and has acquired years of tenure in teaching various subjects. It would be a pleasure for any student or team to have her.
Lisa taught my English 11 Honor English class and Journalism class. She was also the yearbook sponsor which I took part in. She made me a better student, person, and writer. I wouldn't be the same person I am today if it hadn't been for Lisa's input in my life. She cultivated a love for journalistic inquiry in me while nurturing the young writer I was.
I don't think Mrs. Lisa William's is a Trustworthy teacher I KNOW she is.
Nevertheless, to Describe Mrs. William's to You all, would be for me To Tell you all How I come to know Mrs. William's.
Mrs. William's was my 11th Grade English Teacher and Still to this Day she has Made an incredible impact on my Life she Taught me English but Also Taught me Values & My Worth as a Student she Never Doubted me or Gave Up on me Like Most Teacher's Often Do. No, she has Charisma and Spunk and if she Ever Read's this Recommendation she will Probably have a Cow because of my Lack of Punctuation and Fluint Grammer typing this right now haha.
She knows I was one of her best and Talented Student's. Considering I passed her class with an A+, all thank's to her for never giving up. She Believed in me when no other English teacher could or would.
Patient. (She is Very Very Patient)
Strong Work Ethic.
A Kind Demeanor.
These word's all of them Decribe her if Not Many Many MORE.
If You need a Teacher that will stand by you through Hardship's even Through Your own Stubbornness to give up or to even quit. She is Your Teacher, because she Believes in you even when You don't believe in yourself, and she will be there to pick you back up and give you the educational push you need to keep going, and to move forwards into becoming the Best you you can possibly be.
So Furthermore, YES I think and I Know
Mrs. William's is indeed a Trustworthy Teacher.
She is an Absolute Blessing.
Lisa is a trustworthy teacher simply because she loves her students for who they are and whom they aspire to be. No idea or dream is too big or too small. She always encourages her students to explore the possibilities and consistently supports her students in finding their inspirations in both education and life.
Lisa is brilliant, kind, thoughtful and understanding - everything you want in an instructor. Her classroom is a safe haven for anyone that desires to learn.
Lisa was my teacher in high school. She is professional, approachable and dedicated. She is very knowledgeable and her teaching methods meet her students where they are at to help them get to where the need to be. I recommend her highly.
Lisa is a fantastic educator who has a heart for students and a keen ability to help her students make meaningful connections between lessons and practical applications. Knowing Lisa for more than 15 years, I have witnessed her hard work and determination in my own life as her student, as well as her impact on the lives of others she educates. Lisa is kind, compassionate, caring, and understanding. Any individual who crosses her path will undoubtedly benefit from her skills and abilities.
I would 100% recommend Mrs,Williams for your teaching/tutoring needs. English just was never my thing in school until I reached her class. She is very patient, kind and has different methods of teaching depending on how a child learns. She try’s her very best to push her students to do work she knows they are capable of , even when we may not think we can. I am very thankful that I had privilege of being one of her past students! -EG
I have known Lisa for over a decade. She taught my older sister, and later I was lucky enough to be her student as well. She is incredibly knowledgeable in her areas of expertise. I can say that she is creative and constantly improving herself for the sake of her students. She is truly a gift that kept on giving. There were times I truly felt defeated and she swooped in to coach me through those rough patches.
I have not only been molded by her, but I have been inspired by her. She is someone I truly trust with my mind, and even my friendship. It's been a blessing knowing her for so long, and watching as she blossomed into the wise and worthy teacher she is today. 10/10 would recommend working with Lisa -- you will not be disappointed.
