In my 15 years in Africa Swahili was important for teaching at the University of Nairobi and working in the field with giraffe and black rhinoceros.

Vaughan was my mentor at LSU and collaborator on several published scientific studies. He helped to teach me Swahili prior to embarking on research in East Africa. He works well with students and is fluent in speaking, reading and writing conversational Swahili.
