About Olivia
I’m seventeen years old. I’m in year eleven and I’ve been infatuated with literature for just over a few years now. I still remember the first classic novel I ever read. It was ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell and I read it in year 7. The book struck something in me. Never before had I realized what literature could be. Ever since then I’ve familiarized myself with the works of Dostoevsky, Camus, Kafka, Hemingway, James Joyce, Murakami, etc. I used to see writing as something that I had to do for school. I didn’t understand the passion of it before. But I grew up. Over the past few years, I’ve come to realize that literature and words are perhaps the most powerful tools on the planet. I understand that writing is an art in itself and this is something I’d like to pass on to others.

My approach to tutoring is by first understanding the areas that need improvement in a students work and honing in on those things. I do like to talk to my students about things that interest them in order to understand how to best keep them engaged and learning.
When it comes to students who purely want help with school/ doing well in their school work I like to teach how to follow a rubric/ brief. I understand that a lot of students downfall in their marks is that they may have written something beautiful that, however, doesn’t follow the criteria.
In addition, I love getting students passionate about writing. Something that frustrates me about the world today is that a lot of students don’t realise that literature is one of the most incredible passions of the world. This is because often in a school setting English is taught largely using critical thinking in place of passion. I’d like to help my students to see that writing and literature isn’t something we HAVE to do but rather something we LIVE for!
