About Alina

I’m currently studying Business Administration, and I’ve also taken English and English literature courses to strengthen my confidence as a writer and instructor. As a linguistics enthusiast who has taken several language courses in various formats (Individual, private, public, in groups), I’ve been exposed to various ways to teach a language, and the benefits and drawbacks of each one. I’m aware of the difficulties a student trying to learn a new language may face, and therefore know precisely how to help you overcome the obstacles on your journey to fluency. My teaching approach is based on exposure to various teaching techniques, but I always design personal lesson plans that align with the strengths and difficulties of my students. I use an immersive approach, so my lessons contain various parts and exercises. This method gives you a complete perspective of the language and helps you learn faster.

FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS: Let me demonstrate how I apply my teaching strategy. Let’s say you have a hard time writing, whether it be your general written expression or your grammar. During the first part of the lesson, we’ll study and review grammatical theory and complete some exercises in the textbook. Then, we’ll watch a short clip, discuss it, and you’ll have a short essay to write in order to practice your writing and apply the skills learnt in the theoretical part of the lesson. Once your essay is done, you and I will review it and find some key points to focus on and practice in order to develop your writing abilities. As you can see, this example incorporates theoretical learning (Grammar theory), practical learning (Essay writing), and fun (YouTube clips) to provide an enjoyable, well-rounded lesson.
Here are the learning materials we’ll be using:
1. New Total English textbook series. This will be our primary source as it contains all the necessary theoretical and practical materials, along with audio capsules, a workbook with exercises, and useful grammar tables, pictures, and English literature that will help boost your vocabulary and writing skills. I’ll be providing all the materials for any level. Beginners will also receive a visual dictionary. (Levels vary from A1 to C1)
2. Videos. These will come with subtitles to help you improve listening, pronunciation and speaking skills while making connections to English. Viewing sessions are always followed by exercises: dictation, questions, or a short discussion.
3. Homework will be designed to fit your level and will vary.

FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS/STUDENTS:
The learning approach will differ based on your objectives. We'll primarily use academic materials specifically designed by US or Canadian universities, such as essays and theoretical content. I’ll also include vocabulary lists, tutorials and books from open-access sources, and create presentations, if necessary.
