About Emily
I am a certified elementary school teacher with a Master's Degree in Childhood Education. I have taught for six years in Brooklyn, New York and also have several years experience tutoring.
I am very well acquainted with K-5 Common Core State Standards for math and am able to teach to these standards in a variety of ways catering to all types of learners.
I have experience teaching reading from beginning phonics through high school levels. I am experienced in all areas of reading instruction including phonics, comprehension, and fluency. I have taught phonics in alignment with various curriculums including FUNdations and Open Court.
I am also adept at teaching all aspects of the writing process from planning to drafting to editing to revising.
Please contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I am available throughout the Summer and on weeknights and weekends during the school year.
I enjoy getting to know the students with whom I work as both people and learners. I love helping my students build their confidence and find new strategies to tackle challenging academic material. I believe that students can greatly benefit from the addition of one-one tutoring both academically and personally. It is important to me that students enjoy our tutoring sessions and develop a love of learning.
I am certified in Childhood Education by New York State. I also have a Master's Degree in teaching. I have taught elementary school for 5 years.

When working with a new student, I begin with a skills assessment. It is important for me to have a clear baseline of a child's skill so that we can create a meaningful plan for success. I also spend time talking with the student and their family to gain an understanding of their hopes for tutoring.
