About Jim
I went to Graduate School on a teaching fellowship from the University of Mississippi. I taught T'ai Chi as a volunteer for over 30 years. As a teacher I seek to personalize anything that I teach to each individual rather than having a curriculum based course of study, I work directly with each student to help them improve on what skills they do (or do not) have and work to help them realize what they're talents are, and teach them where to go from there. Therefore, my approach is to sharpen & hone their own skills. More like a tutor than a teacher with an inbuilt curriculum. Try it, we'll have some fun.

When I was growing up I had a strong desire to learn how to draw, but there was no one around White Deer, Texas, to help me. When I was in university I attended a fine arts school studying mainly theater. I made friends with one of the art teachers& she asked me to do some modeling for her drawing class. At the same time I was taking a scene design course. One day my scene design teacher was busy telling me how my rendering were terrible and that I would never learn to draw. As he was uttering those fateful words the drawing teacher was passing through the room & heard what he was saying & it made her mad. She caught me after my class ended. She was angry with what the scene designer had said & offered to talk to him & get him to let me go to her drawing class which was at the same time as the scene design class. He was totally glad to shed his responsibility toward me. So, I happily went to her drawing class, & happily learned to draw. They had some really great equipment there at the arts center. I got interested in the lithography process & did several lithographs on which I got some very positive feedback from other students & art teachers. So, when the Mid-South Show, in Memphis, Tennessee, put out invitations for potential entrants, some of my friends talked me into sending some of my lithographs in to see if I might get selected for exhibition in their 5 state competition. I did, and I was accepted to be displayed, quite to my surprise. Some of the art teachers from the art center weren't even selected! From there, I went on to get interested in painting & sculpture & the like. I've had paintings exhibited in other galleries here in Canada & in the U. S. If you want to learn to draw. I'm your man.
