About Steve
I am an Australian ESL Teacher with 5 years of experience teaching abroad. I currently live and work in China and in my time here have worked with students of all ages with many different goals for their English.
I ordinarily teach teenagers at my current school, but have experience in teaching adults as well. Some different subjects I have covered within the English language over the years are: Business English, IELTS preparation, Conversational fluency, Writing skills, Phonics and Vocabulary building to name a few.
On a personal note, I have many interests, particularly in music and technology and could talk about those for hours. I do really enjoy debating subjects with students so don't be afraid to bring up any issues you feel strongly about. My baby son doesn't give me a whole lot of time to pursue these interests anymore though!

I believe that communication is key to building confidence and fluency in any language. To that end, using English to communicate is the primary objective of the class, every lesson typically begins with free talk as a warm up. Our classes mainly focus on listening comprehension and vocabulary building, with plenty of speaking practice and short reading comprehension pieces.
I typically prefer to assign any writing tasks as homework, particularly in an online lesson, because writing can be especially difficult to teach online and I don't want our lesson to be both of us sitting quietly and not saying anything. With any writing task, I make myself available to students through email for any questions or editing that needs to be done, and discuss any points from the exercise in class, whether it be things you do really well or any mistakes may make.
