About Janaun

Welcome! Since 2014, I have dedicated myself to teaching and mentoring teenagers in the art of filmmaking, helping young creators find their voices and bring their ideas to life. I do not view myself as a rigid industry professional; instead, I am an active practitioner and a passionate educator who understands how to make complex film concepts exciting, accessible, and structured for youth. Over more than a decade of hands-on teaching, I have mastered the art of guiding teens safely and effectively through every stage of production—from writing scripts to handling gear and editing the final cut. Parents and students can rely on my deep commitment to providing a dependable, organized, and encouraging learning environment where young filmmakers can thrive.

About the Class and My Approach

My community-based film production lessons are designed to demystify the filmmaking process and make visual storytelling accessible to everyone. I believe that the best way to learn filmmaking is by doing, which is why my teaching technique relies heavily on collaborative, hands-on practice. We focus on maximizing creative output using the resources you already have available.
Whether you are absolute beginners, local creatives looking to expand your skill set, or individuals wanting to tell impactful grassroots stories, these sessions cater to your specific goals. No prior film school degree or expensive equipment is required to participate.

The Production Journey (How We Progress)

Because filmmaking is a multi-step process, our lesson plans evolve chronologically to mirror a real-world film pipeline. We progress together through four distinct phases:
• Phase 1: Story & Scripting: We begin by developing your core concept, shaping the narrative, and translating your ideas into a working script.
• Phase 2: Planning & Pre-Production: Next, we dive into the logistics of preparation. You will learn how to scout locations, manage casting, design sets, and source costumes and props within a community framework.
• Phase 3: Production & Filming: We move onto the set where the hands-on magic happens. Here, lessons focus on directing, operating the camera, capturing clean audio, and filming your scenes.
• Phase 4: Post-Production & Editing: Finally, we take your raw footage into the editing room. You will learn how to piece your scenes together, mix sound, and polish the project into a cohesive, impactful film.

What Sets Me Apart

What truly sets my classes apart is the direct connection to community-based filmmaking. My background is rooted in grassroots storytelling, meaning I teach you how to build a crew from your local network and create cinematic art on a realistic budget.

I also assist in submitting work to film festivals that might be interested in it. I can not guarantee that your work will be accepted, but I am equipped to submit them.
