About Chérie
I am a soprano and voice teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience. I hold a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice from the University of Oregon and spent 14 years at Seattle Pacific University as Head of Voice and European Musicology. I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (former president of its Puget Sound chapter) and of the Asociación Mexicana de Maestros de Canto.
My background is classical, and I have worked with many musical theater singers and am comfortable in popular styles. My students have won awards at NATS competitions, been accepted at major universities and gone on to careers in music. I now teach privately in Eugene, Oregon.

About the lesson

Lessons are built around you. We begin with a free 30-minute consultation: a relaxed conversation about your goals, your experience and the music you love, so we can decide together how lessons can best support you.
A typical lesson starts with a personalized vocal workout: exercises that warm up your voice and build long-term skill and strength. I record these for you so you can practice daily. We then work on two or three pieces you enjoy: audition songs, choral parts, musical theater, classical repertoire in any language, or songs of any genre you want to improve. Each lesson ends with a practice plan for the week.
I recommend a weekly lesson. Lessons are 60 minutes or 45 minutes (recommended for teens and younger singers), and a 60-minute voice and musicianship lesson adds note reading, rhythm and basic keyboard skills. Lessons are booked as a 3-month subscription of 10 lessons, scheduled at your convenience. Singers of all ages and levels are welcome; my studio is LGBTQ+ friendly.

The free first session is a 30-minute consultation: a relaxed conversation about your goals, your experience and the music you love, so we can decide together how lessons can best support you.
Private lesson, 60 minutes: $80. Private lesson, 45 minutes: $60 (recommended for teens and younger singers). Voice and musicianship lesson, 60 minutes: $80.
Lessons are booked as a 3-month subscription of 10 lessons ($800 for 60-minute lessons), scheduled at your convenience; weekly lessons at a regular time are recommended. 24 hours' notice is required to reschedule. Lessons are in person at my studio in Eugene; the address is shared once your first lesson is confirmed.
