• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  I consider myself lucky because I have always wanted to be a teacher. I remember teaching my dolls as a child and I actually started working as an ESL teacher when I was 16 years old. I loved studying English and Portuguese and it was an incredibly rare opportunity to become a tutor at such an early age. The owner of the school taught me everything she knew about the language acquisition process and language teaching. Since then I have never stopped developing myself. I will always be deeply thankful for what she has done for me. It was also back then that I decided to use my profession to make a difference in people's lives by helping them reach their goals.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  This question gives margin to a lot of different answers from several perspectives, but I prefer to stick with the one I consider to be the most valuable: languages build bridges. And this is what makes me passionate about Portuguese and English. In my 33-year experience, I have lost count of the people I have helped connect and grow, and this is extremely rewarding.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  Teaching is part of who I am - as simple as that. I have been a teacher for 33 years now, and throughout those years I have gathered a lot of experience and never stopped studying. That is why I am confident I can raise your needs, learn about both your profile as a learner and your objectives, as well as your current level in the language, in order to design the course that truly boosts your development. It is not about you adjusting to a methodology, but about the methodology being suitable for you. Additionally, I strongly believe that a teacher is a partner. I want to help you reach your goals and this is what drives me to do my job.

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  Too many to name! I have had a lot of incredibly competent and inspiring teachers along the journey, and studied the research of innumerous well-known educators. They all have one thing in common, though. Truly committed professionals, they all reinforce the beauty of embracing education as a career to bring a positive contribution to people's lives. In other words, quoting the admirable educator Prof. Paulo Freire, "What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for students to become themselves."

• What are your keys to success?

  Honestly, the true measure of success for me is actually my students' success.
