About Emma
I have 10 years of teaching experience and hold a FIDE Certified Coaching Qualification. Throughout my coaching career, I have worked with beginners, scholastic competitors, club players, and tournament participants who wanted to strengthen both their technical ability and strategic understanding. I enjoy helping students discover that chess is not only a game but also an excellent way to develop concentration, patience, and logical thinking.
One student initially relied almost entirely on tactical attacks without understanding positional play, often losing games despite strong combinations. Together we focused on strategic planning, endgame fundamentals, and careful game analysis through regular practice sessions. Over several months, the student developed a more balanced playing style, achieved consistent tournament success, and significantly improved their competitive rating.
I believe chess is best learned through thoughtful analysis, regular practice, and the confidence to learn from every game. My coaching environment encourages curiosity, disciplined thinking, and steady improvement while creating opportunities for players to challenge themselves at every stage of development. Every lesson is designed to strengthen both chess skills and lifelong problem-solving abilities.
Outside coaching, I enjoy studying classical master games, analyzing modern grandmaster tournaments, and exploring new instructional methods that make chess learning more engaging. These experiences allow me to bring fresh ideas, practical strategies, and current competitive insights into every lesson. I would be delighted to help you improve your chess skills, strengthen your strategic thinking, and achieve your personal playing goals.

I begin by assessing each student's playing strength, learning objectives, and previous tournament experience before creating a personalized training plan. This allows every lesson to focus on developing strong fundamentals while steadily improving decision-making and competitive confidence. Classes combine theory, practical exercises, and game analysis to create balanced learning experiences for players of all levels.
Opening principles are introduced before studying complete opening repertoires so students understand piece development, center control, king safety, and long-term planning. Middlegame instruction emphasizes tactical patterns, positional understanding, calculation techniques, and strategic planning through carefully selected positions. Endgame lessons focus on essential king and pawn endings, rook endgames, opposition, promotion techniques, and practical conversion methods that frequently determine tournament results.
Students regularly solve tactical puzzles that improve pattern recognition, visualization, and calculation accuracy under varying levels of difficulty. Every completed game is analyzed to identify strengths, recurring mistakes, and opportunities for improvement while encouraging independent thinking instead of memorizing moves. Time management, tournament preparation, psychological resilience, and practical decision-making are incorporated into training sessions to strengthen overall competitive performance.
Students preparing for school competitions, club tournaments, state championships, national events, online rating improvement, or FIDE-rated tournaments receive individualized coaching with structured practice schedules and performance reviews. I continually monitor progress, adjust training according to development, and provide constructive feedback after every lesson. Each session concludes with personalized assignments that reinforce newly learned concepts and encourage consistent improvement between classes.
