About Karly
I graduated with a BA in English Literature and Politics/International Affairs from Wake Forest University in 2018. I received “honors” in English, and graduated magna cum laude overall. I’ve worked in health policy for a year and am currently a Master of Public Policy graduate student at UVA.
I love English, did an English program study abroad in the UK, and have tutored collegiate athletes in both British and American literature. I’m pursuing higher education disability policy currently and am committed to teaching students with various needs and abilities.

- I start by gauging where the student is succeeding and struggling academically (both from personal narratives and demonstrated understanding)
- I try to pinpoint activities that the student enjoys, particularly when teaching older literature that’s hard to relate to. I then try to make comparisons between student interests and literature content to make it engaging.
- I try to pinpoint difficult passages and take them line by line with students, helping them develop “close reading” skills in addition to absorbing overall content.
