About Jamie
I am a passionate and loving English teacher, currently teaching ELA and ENL in the NYC DOE for students in grades 6-12. I hold a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for grades K-12.
My teaching style and philosophy centers around my students' needs. I strive to teach my students independence and confidence when it comes to learning, so that they can continue to excel in and out of the classroom.
During these challenging times, I will ensure that my students maintain a high quality education throughout remote learning.
I hold a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. This degree has taught me in depth reading and writing interventions to help students who need assistance in language based tasks.
I have been teaching for over 2 years in a public school setting, serving students in grades K-12.
I am currently in the process of beginning my second Master's degree as a Dyslexia Specialist. Upon completion of this Master's Degree, I will also receive a certification in Wilson Language Training Level I and Level II.

When beginning with a new student, I would start by evaluating their learning style, preferences and interests. I would then assess the student's current abilities, as each student is different. This will allow me to tailor my sessions to suit each individual's needs.
I have worked with students of all abilities and levels, including students in the process of learning English as a new language. I also have experience teaching students with interrupted formal education.
