About Jim

Hi, my name is Jim. I'm an MIT trained engineer and engineering instructor in the oil & gas industry. I have been teaching SAT/ACT math to a handful of high school students for almost 1 year. My students vary greatly in age and educational experience.

My students fall into three main categories. The first group is adults who need a college-level math and science primer in order to qualify for a supervisory role in O&G. The second group is college graduates to whom I teach job-specific engineering principles and calculations. The third group is high school students.

I focus primarily on math and science. I have had a lot of success with my students. My teaching method is tailored to the individual student. I'm good at breaking down complex subjects into a number of easier to understand concepts. I also spend a lot of time working to figure out sticking points with each student and resolve those before progressing any further. My goal when I teach is not just to pass a test one time, but to ensure the student comes away with a true understanding of the subject.

What I love most about teaching is to be able to share, not only concepts and math but also the practical applications. The most enjoyable thing about teaching is being able to watch the "eureka" moment when something clicks with a student.
