About Robin
There is nothing quite like seeing a student's face light up when they finally understand a new concept.
That is what pulled me to the teaching profession in the first place. I thrived off their new found energy and excitement for science.
For 19 years, I worked in public school classrooms, teaching physics, earth science and other general science classes. I spent time developing new curriculum for existing classes, creating new courses and finding new ways to help students learn. Toward the end of my classroom time, I became frustrated with how learning and the classroom had changed. Everything was now based on teaching for the final exam with less and less emphasis on problem solving and thinking skills.
Since then, I've dedicated my time to helping students discover their individual learning styles and creating online plans to help them become more successful as students and thinkers.
Primarily I work with high school and community college students to ignite their passion for science and help prepare them for their future.
I am a Time-Warner Cable in the Classroom Crystal Apple award winner and hold New York State certification in the areas of physics, earth science and math 7-12.

I hold New York State teaching credentials and have 19 years of classroom experience teaching physics, earth science and general science combined with 8 years of tutoring (both privately and with tutoring firms).
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Master of Education in Physics Education.

About the lesson

We start with a free assessment to gauge where the student is having issues (the science, the required math or reading and understanding the questions). After the assessment, we have a consultation with the parent to go over the individualized plan that addresses the problem that the student is having.
Typically, I will meet once per week for an hour long session with the client. With a parent/ guardian introduction, I will communicate with the classroom teacher to keep sessions on track to reinforce what is happening in class while focusing on getting th student back on track.

The teacher prepares tutoring work based on the needs of the student. Additionally, she is in constant contact with my child's teacher in order to address any issues which may arise or is able to ask questions of the teacher on our behalf. She has the student's interest at the forefront of the tutoring session but is highly personable.
