About Carey

Hi, I'm Carey. I teach AP Language and Composition, which I scored a 5 on in 2025. I will be attending Columbia University this fall, studying philosophy and creative writing. Having gone through the exam myself, I understand the pressure of timed writes, the nuances of MCQ passages, and what graders are truly looking for in a high-scoring response. Whether you're aiming for a 5 or simply looking to approach the exam with greater confidence, I tailor every session to where you are and build from there. I have a deep passion for writing and language, and I believe that comes through in how I teach.

About the lesson

My lessons cover all three components of the AP Lang exam: rhetorical analysis essays, argument essays, and synthesis writing, but also the multiple-choice section, which students often overlook. I break down how to read passages efficiently, eliminate wrong answers strategically, and identify rhetorical devices quickly under time pressure.

Every session includes a mock MCQ set, so you're consistently practicing under real exam conditions. Students are also expected to outline, and ideally write, one full essay per class using official past prompts. I give live feedback on your writing during the session itself, alongside targeted lessons on how to master each essay type. I use real past AP prompts and official materials throughout, and I break down scoring rubrics in plain language so you always know what graders are looking for.

I'm a great fit for students who feel overwhelmed by essay writing, stuck on MCQs, or unsure how to approach the exam overall. Whether you're starting from scratch or polishing your skills before May, sessions are flexible, conversational, and focused on real results.
