About Shelia

Returning to the instrument after a 10-year break helped me understand exactly how rusty fingers feel when they try to move again. I have helped 500 students navigate this exact hurdle over the last 12 years. Making the switch from a desk job to music is a path I know well because I walked it myself before earning my Diploma in Guitar from Musicians Institute Hollywood.

Pattern recognition is the secret bridge between theory and soul, so I help you spot the shapes instead of just memorizing rigid rules. I am not a perfectionist, so expect to hear me talk through my own mistakes while we play together. It feels more like a conversation between two peers than a lecture from a stage.

Hearing the distinct snap of a string hitting the fretboard reminds us that music is a physical and messy process. My approach uses your Diploma in Guitar knowledge to treat the instrument as a machine for building songs rather than just a showpiece.

We will work through improvisation, lead guitar, blues progressions, scales, modes, music theory, reading tabs, ear training, tuning, maintenance, and reading sheet music in 7 distinct stages. You will find that these technical hurdles become second nature once you understand the logic behind them.

I provide a 10.0 rated monthly recorded review of progress to track how your songwriting voice develops. Expect to hear honest feedback on your rhythmic choices as we refine your unique style. I aim to keep the focus on making things sound right to your ears instead of following a textbook.
