About Shannon
Education has always been at the heart of my life—growing up with a teacher as a mother showed me firsthand how transformative quality instruction can be. Now, as I pursue my own degree in Childhood Education and Social Psychology at Hunter College (3.9 GPA), I'm committed to making that same difference for my students.
I currently work in an elementary school teaching multiple subjects, where I've developed a flexible, student-centered approach that adapts to different learning styles. My background as a magazine editor has also sharpened my ability to break down complex concepts and communicate clearly—skills that translate directly into effective tutoring.
I specialize in Science, Math, and English, and I'm passionate about helping students not just understand the material, but gain confidence in their abilities. Whether your child (or you) needs help with homework, test preparation, or building foundational skills, I'm here to support their academic growth.

For a lesson in argumentative essay writing:
Go through the components which make up this style of writing:
- Introduction with thesis: includes topic, claim, and major points to be laid out during essay.
-Body paragraphs: Reasons as to why your thesis is true with supporting evidence. Strong emphasis on analysis as to why this evidence is relevant to the thesis rather than merely summary.
-Rebuttal paragraph: states the counterclaim and is followed by a rebuttal with evidence supporting.
-Conclusion: restates the thesis and gives a broader explanation as to why the thesis is important.
Each section will be broken down to help the student familiarize themselves with breaking a large essay into smaller parts.
Such practice can be used for helping students with a current assignment, or external practice of valuable skills in essay writing.
