About Alexa
I have a decade of experience working with kids of all ages and have been tutoring for 2 years. I work with kids in grades 4-8. I am currently finishing up my Master's of Social Work at the University of Chicago where I will graduate in May.

Tutoring structure is based on the individual needs of the student. I have a warm, friendly, and encouraging tutoring style. I support students while empowering them with the tools they need to work through problems on their own. Some students are struggling in a particular area and we will focus our time there, while others want a more general homework helper or outside of school enrichment. For math, I incorporate math games, regular problems, and word problems. I encourage kids to get creative and write their own word problems! Language arts can focus on reading comprehension, writing, or both. Social studies work often involves assisting with understanding and completing projects. I often tutor one student in more than one area. I also tutor rising 8th graders for high school entrance exams, including the CPS entrance test, HSPT, ISEE, and SSAT. Test prep is more structured and will focus on specific problem types, test taking skills, and content areas. I love getting to know kids through learning, and making their learning interesting and fun!
