About Eva

Hi! I’m Eva, a University of Florida student studying Computer Science and Psychology. I have previous math tutoring experience through Mu Alpha Theta and completed advanced IB mathematics coursework in high school. I enjoy breaking down difficult concepts and helping students reach the point where something that once felt confusing finally makes sense.

I’m patient, approachable, and comfortable working with students of different ages and learning styles. I also have 7 years of experience working with children through babysitting, which has helped me become especially good at keeping younger students engaged while still making lessons productive. My goal is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their math skills.

My Teaching Method and Techniques

I focus on helping students understand why a math concept works instead of only memorizing steps. I break difficult topics into smaller, easier pieces and explain them in clear, relatable language. I also adjust how I teach depending on the student, since some students learn best through examples, visuals, repetition, or working through problems together. My goal is to make math feel less intimidating while helping students become more confident and independent.

A Typical Lesson Plan

I usually begin by asking what the student is currently learning and what feels confusing or difficult. I then review the underlying concept, work through a few examples step by step, and gradually let the student take over more of the problem solving. I pay close attention to where mistakes are coming from so we can fix the actual misunderstanding instead of just correcting answers. At the end, I like to review the main ideas and make sure the student can solve or explain the concept on their own.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

I combine strong math experience with a patient and approachable teaching style. I am a University of Florida student studying Computer Science and Psychology, completed advanced IB mathematics coursework, and have previous tutoring experience through Mu Alpha Theta. Because I recently completed many of the same kinds of courses students are currently taking, I remember what can be confusing and can explain concepts in a way that feels current and relatable. My psychology background also makes me especially interested in how different students learn and build confidence.

Who My Lessons Are For

I am comfortable tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students. For elementary and middle school students, I ask that parents or students send me information about the class, current lessons, assignments, or curriculum ahead of time so I can familiarize myself with the specific methods and terminology their school is using. This allows me to reinforce what they are already learning instead of introducing a completely different approach that may cause confusion.

For high school students, I am comfortable tutoring Algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. Lessons can focus on homework help, reviewing difficult concepts, preparing for quizzes or tests, catching up on material, or strengthening overall problem-solving skills. I tailor each session to the student’s current class and goals rather than using the same lesson plan for everyone.
