About Phillip

I'm an experienced, professional English teacher with a CELTA qualification from the Manchester Academy of English and a degree in English from Newcastle University. I also have a 1st class Masters in Anthropology from University College London. I've taught online for several years and I love the job. I also teach classes in an English school, NCG Manchester, and have taught at a number of other English schools over the years, including experience teaching in Spain. I live in a small village near Manchester. I have two children of Primary School age. I enjoy walking (and running) in the countryside, writing stories, history, music, comedy, cooking and football.

About the lesson

I aim to help my clients practise and improve their English with lessons that are varied, fun and interesting. I will find out what you want so that together we can choose lessons that suit you. In this way you can focus your learning on the areas you most want to work on and pick topics and activities that you are likely to enjoy. I want to give my clients the opportunity to speak as much as possible in my lessons and I work very hard to find great materials (like videos, podcasts, texts etc) to make my classes more enjoyable. I am also an expert in error correction; I will quickly identify your problems and explain how to correct them. Note - I teach 16+ only (no children).

For more info message me at (concealed information) - my Menu lists all my regular lessons.
Fluency - Topics for focussed conversation (books, family etc). Activities for spontaneous conversation (Top 5s, Personality Test etc). Word games (20 Questions, Articulate). Your choice.
Grammar and Vocab - Prep with a worksheet. Learn the material with a slideshow. Practise with role play/speaking activity. Revise with Kahoot.
Reading - Options include reading a book together, recommended texts, correcting other clients' work and Speed Reading.
Listening - Options include selected videos, recommended podcasts/movies or presentations on British culture.
Writing - Write instructions, accounts, stories, essays, letters, emails

I know Phillip since 2021 when he was my English teacher for several months. We used an online platform to conduct our lessons, he was always on time, prepared in advance for our lesson. His teaching style is student-oriented with students' needs and interests on focus. He has always been supportive, ready to teach you on different topics, broaden your knowledge on grammar or develop your conversation skills.
I recommend Phillip as a tutor who will help you to improve your English comprehension and skills with ease and in a relaxed manner.

Phil has been my English Language teacher for about 1 year. He is a great and professional teacher. He is a friendly person and taught me in a entertainingly way. He remembered my mistakes and corrected me many times patiently. He creates his lesson materials by his own and those are really innovative. I really recommend him as perfect English teacher.

I was Phil's supervisor for two years at a very busy language school in Manchester. He is a professional, conscientious and creative teacher who always worked hard to meet the needs of the learners in his classes. He consistently planned and delivered effective, communicative, student-centred lessons in which people could tangibly improve their language skills while also enjoying themselves in a dynamic but scaffolded and supportive atmostphere. I would unreservedly recommend his services to anyone who wants to significantly develop their ability to understand and express themselves in English.
