About Lauren
Hi! I'm Lauren, and I've been a teacher with almost 10 years of classroom experience looking forward to helping you achieve your learning goals! Throughout my own schooling, I've worked with mentors and guides to support me, and I love being able to encourage and empower learners in the same way. In my time spent in the classroom, I've worked with students in second (2nd) through tenth (10th, sophomore) grades in subjects such as English, Math, History, Spanish, Writing, and Public Speaking. I also have extensive experience in Study Skills and Test Prep (ISEE, SSAT, etc.)
I'm a passionate people person, and I love building relationships with my students and tutees. In our time together, we will collaborate and implement strategies to better further your understanding and your own connections with the content.

I began as a Paraprofessional/student aide prior to attending Graduate school. I worked to support students with learning disabilities in small groups, general education settings, and in one-on-one settings. From there I used my experience to receive my teacher certification and begin teaching in the classroom as a Special Education and English coteacher.
I have almost 10 years of classroom teaching experience, a Master's degree and Certification in Special Education. I've been trained in various curriculums and instructional approaches in my time spent teaching.

When I begin working with a new student, it is important that we develop a comfortable, trusting relationship. Students will not learn from teachers or tutors that they do not respect or trust. I will start with assessing basic skills in each area, and identify the goals for our sessions together. From there, we will work together to develop a plan and a schedule (if longer term) for our time together. Throughout, we will do check-ins for any feedback, checks for understanding, and allow for adjustments.
I've worked with students K-12, but the bulk of my experience has been spent working in grades 4-9. I've taught English, Math, History, and I have been a Learning Specialist/Special Education teacher as well. I have worked in both public and private education with varying learning styles.
