I get really invested in my students' success. If they're not satisfied with the results, than I'm not either.

Each situation is different. In general, I make sure to come prepared to guide the student through any help he/she needs. Once we develop a rapport, I help the student with what he/she finds difficult, and try and strengthen what the student already excels at.
1st graders all the way to college students!
I would encourage each student to be able to feel like he/she is making progress and having a better understanding of the material as time goes on. If not, don't be shy and try to find someone else!
