Private tutoring, specially one on one has to adapt to the student characteristics. I have always believed that creating a confortable space in which the student is able to try, make mistakes and try again brings the best results. Listening, emotional contact and confidence are key.

Background
Currently graduate student at UC Berkeley.
I have been tutoring for more than 8 years students from all ages (from 5 to 20+, middle school to university level). I was lucky to tutor in three different countries (Spain, the Netherlands and Indonesia!), in English, Spanish, Maths and Physics mainly. In 8 years I tutored more than 15 students, for intensive-short periods of time or year-long couses.
In Spain, I taught English to Spanish speakers (including pre-university examinations - PAU), which gave me the experience regarding language teaching.
Later on, while completing my Masters degree, I assisted college lectures in the Netherlands, as well as teaching Spanish to a couple of undergrad students.
Finally, during last year's fall, I was lucky enough to get selected in a volunteering program to teach English in Pulau Nias, Indonesia, to a wide range of students (5 to 23 yo), in a class format. The three-weeks programme, four hours a day, resulted a incredible experience and different perspective that definitely helps when tutoring anywhere. I could even teach for one day at an official public school!
