About Reid

I am a piano tutor with 8 years of experience and a B.Mus in Piano Performance along with an M.Mus in Music Education. I specialize in developing technical skill, expressive interpretation, and performance readiness for students at all levels. I teach beginners to build foundational technique, intermediate students to refine musicality and sight-reading, and advanced learners to master performance and expressive repertoire. Lessons integrate technical exercises, repertoire study, improvisation, and performance coaching. Instruction is personalized to each learner’s needs and goals. Beginners focus on posture, fingering, and basic melodies. Intermediate learners refine technique, phrasing, and sight-reading. Advanced learners concentrate on repertoire mastery, improvisation, and performance preparation. Feedback is constructive, continuous, and supportive. Lessons balance technical skill, artistic expression, and musical enjoyment. Outside teaching, I perform, explore diverse repertoire, and mentor students in recitals and projects. Teaching piano allows me to witness learners develop technical mastery, expressive ability, and confidence. My mission is to nurture well-rounded, expressive, and skilled pianists while fostering a lifelong love for music.

Piano lessons succeed when technical mastery and musical expression develop hand in hand. I teach finger independence, sight-reading, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, phrasing, dynamics, repertoire interpretation, and ensemble performance. Beginners focus on posture, basic fingerings, note reading, and simple melodies to establish strong foundational skills. Intermediate learners refine technical execution, sight-reading fluency, expressive phrasing, and harmonic understanding. Advanced learners explore complex repertoire, improvisation, technical mastery, and performance preparation. Each lesson combines structured exercises, creative exploration, and practical performance opportunities, encouraging independent learning and expressive artistry. I emphasize connecting technique with emotion, fostering a personal musical voice while ensuring consistent progress and engagement.

Lesson plans are tailored to each student’s skill level. Beginners develop posture, basic technique, and note recognition. Intermediate learners enhance sight-reading, phrasing, and expressive skills. Advanced learners focus on complex repertoire, improvisation, and performance. Exercises include technical drills, repertoire practice, creative projects, and performance simulation. Constructive feedback promotes mastery and confidence. Lessons nurture technical skill, musicality, interpretive ability, and independence, supporting a lifelong journey in piano. Students develop fluency, artistry, and expressive confidence.

Over time, learners gain technical precision, interpretive depth, reading fluency, and performance confidence. Lessons foster musical memory, technical mastery, expressive phrasing, and stylistic versatility. Students become capable of solo or ensemble performance, improvisation, and expressive interpretation. I aim to cultivate pianists who combine skill, creativity, and enjoyment while supporting long-term growth and a lifelong connection to music.
