About James
I am a dedicated educator, having formerly served as Professor of Teacher Education at Cal State East Bay. With a doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, my work centered on supporting multicultural inner-city classrooms in the Bay Area of California. I held roles as a coordinator for multiple and single-subject student teaching programs and as a College of Education coordinator for Quality Matters, focusing on transitioning to hybrid and online instruction. I began the first online single subject teaching credential program in the California State University system.

My teaching style is centered on creating an active, student-centered learning environment, even within virtual spaces. With deep subject matter expertise, I translate complex concepts into engaging, digestible lessons that foster curiosity. I excel at teaching virtual lessons cooperatively, utilizing breakout rooms, collaborative whiteboards, and interactive tools to transform passive listeners into active participants. I believe in the "flipped classroom" approach, where students engage with content directly to drive collaborative problem-solving.
