About Buford

Questioning comes naturally to me before providing any direct answers. I admit that moving into teaching from industry habits sometimes creates a rigid environment for returning students. Getting unstuck remains a vital skill we practice directly during our time together.

My practice centers on sight-playing, sight transposition, and hand independence for those returning to the keys after a long break. Classical repertoire and memorization techniques form the backbone of our work while we refine chord voicing and music theory. I focus on building confidence that survives contact with a hard problem. Feel free to reach out if this sounds like a helpful fit for your current goals.

Do you find that your hands feel disconnected when you attempt to read a piece you played 5 years ago? This common frustration often stems from outdated mechanics rather than a lack of musicality.

We address this by breaking down complex sight playing into manageable, logical patterns that rely on deliberate technique. My lessons emphasize the 8.0 differentiator, which ensures that every technical exercise is measurable and clear for the adult learner.

Students often spend too much energy dwelling on what they have forgotten instead of reinforcing their existing foundation. We move past that blockage by applying disciplined theory and memorisation techniques to your chosen repertoire. My sessions are built to be precise, encouraging, and focused on tangible improvement. Real progress is simply the result of better habits.
