About Anko

I’m a Master of Fine Arts graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with a BA in Art from UCLA, and 5 years teaching experience at Wilmette Park District. I’m used to keeping lessons fun and encouraging while still teaching real skills. I also offer portfolio reviews and birthday parties and special events.

About the lesson

My teaching method and techniques
I teach hands-on, by making and showing. We start with the basics — drawing, color, and how materials actually behave — and build from there, whether that’s watercolor, painting, ceramics, or craft projects. I demo, then guide you step by step, so you’re making something in every lesson, point out better ways to do things, not just watching.

A typical lesson
A 1-hour lesson usually looks like this: a quick demo of the technique or project, guided making time where I help one-on-one, and a finish-up where we look at what you made and talk about what to try next. Projects are adjusted to your level and interests, from playful art for little kids to more focused drawing and painting for older students.

Who the lessons are for
Ages 3 to adult, beginners to more advanced students. That includes young kids just starting out, school-age students who love to draw and make, teens working on skills or a portfolio, and adults who want to learn or get back into art. Lessons are in-person in Chicago and surrounding areas, with location arranged on booking.
