About Skippy

I've spent more than thirty years as a professional singer, choral conductor, musical theater director, and voice teacher. I hold a music education degree from the Eastman School of Music and a master's in voice pedagogy from Shenandoah Conservatory, I've taught voice on college faculties, and I've published on the singing voice. Along the way I've worked with thousands of singers in my private studio, in choirs, and in musical theater productions. My students sing musical theater, opera, jazz, and contemporary styles, and I work with all of them: first-time singers, college-audition candidates, and working professionals.

For the past five years I've been building Foundations of Voice, a YouTube series on how the voice works and how to train it. As the series launches this November, I'm reopening my studio to a limited number of students. Working with singers is the best job in the world, and I can't wait to get started!

Every singer has a set of skills and a set of goals, with an obstacle between them. In our first sessions we name each one, and I build a roadmap from there. A professional arrives with a specific agenda. Someone who was told to “stand in the back row and mouth the words” needs something very different. Either way, you leave with a clear path and objectives you can reach.

FOUNDING STUDENT RATE: $68/hour (standard rate $98)

I've spent the past five years building Foundations of Voice, and I'm reopening my studio alongside the series launch. Producing the show limits me to 20 students, so the founding rate ends January 31, 2027, or when the 20th student enrolls, whichever comes first.

Founding students keep $68/hour for 12 months as long as they stay active (at least one lesson every 30 days).

PACKS: 5 hours for $340. 10 hours for $680. The founding rate is the discount, so packs are priced at the hourly rate.

LESSON LENGTH: I find 45-minute lessons the most effective, and most of my students take them. Superprof lists hourly rates, so we'll set the length that suits you when we talk. Your first 30 minutes are free.

Students who start lessons get a free year of membership at SingersAtPlay.com, with warmups, repertoire guides, and technique deep dives to use between lessons.
