# Phonics Lesson Plan

**Grade Level:** Kindergarten

**Duration:** 30-40 minutes

**Objective:**
Students will be able to identify and pronounce the short vowel sound /a/ and recognize words that contain this sound.

- Whiteboard and markers
- Flashcards with pictures and words (cat, hat, rat, mat, bat, sat)
- Worksheets for practice
- Short story or poem featuring short /a/ words
- Audio recording of words with short /a/

**Lesson Outline:**

1. **Introduction (5 minutes)**
- Begin with a brief review of the vowels (A, E, I, O, U).
- Introduce the short vowel sound /a/ using the letter 'a'.
- Demonstrate the sound by saying it clearly and encouraging students to repeat it.

2. **Direct Instruction (10 minutes)**
- Show flashcards with pictures and words that contain the short /a/ sound.
