About Gizem

Merhaba! My name is Gizem and I am from Turkey. I am an English teacher that also teaches Turkish as a foreign language. I have 5 years of experience in teaching. I studied English Language Teaching at Istanbul University. In the previous academic year, I was honored with the Fulbright FLTA scholarship and served as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas for a year. While still studying I joined the I.U. Language Club and I voluntarily worked as an English teacher where I taught English to university students for a year. At the same time, I worked as a part-time English teacher at the Career Development Center of the university. I gave English Speaking Classes to university students and our university's graduates. After I graduated, before jumping into full-time work, I decided on participating in one of the AIESEC projects. I went to Poland for a volunteer teaching project. I had the opportunity to visit different towns and villages of the country as a volunteer English teacher. Afterward, I worked as a full-time English teacher at the primary level of a private school in Turkey. I worked there for two years. I attended a certified Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language program. I also attended a certified TESOL course and completed it successfully. The certifications I earned helped me improve my knowledge in both English and my native language Turkish related to teaching. I gave Turkish Speaking Classes to foreigners not long after I earned my Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language certificate. I love teaching and helping my students make the target language a part of their lives.

About the lesson

I make sure that I know my students' level, motivation sources, and needs. I plan our lessons according to these factors. I, as an experienced teacher and a language learner myself, find making my students feel comfortable enough for honest communication during their language learning process crucial.
